Why is income protection important?

It’s the only way to keep your income AND your savings.
Self-employed people can only claim Employment and Support Allowance, which is a maximum of £77 per week.
For employees, statutory sick pay only lasts for 28 weeks and is limited to £109.40 per week.
The average employer sick pay lasts for 28 weeks at the full rate then reduces to 50% for another 28 weeks.

With income protection insurance you’re buying a safety net that’s cheap to pay for and easy to manage. And when you need it, it’s just waiting for you to claim.

Don’t ask if you can afford to have it – ask if you can afford not to.

If your income when you claim is the same as when you bought the policy you’ll get the full amount of cover. If it’s lower you might receive less.

When you buy your policy we ask you to choose a waiting period, which is the time between claiming and being paid. Once that period’s over you’ll start getting payments.

Yes, just log into your account to make changes. You can also cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund or any time after 30 days but without a refund. There’s no cancellation fee.

1. Contact our underwriter by phone, email or post to get a claim form, or you can fill it in online.

2. Complete and return it at least 14 days before you expect your first payment. Include:

a copy of your passport or driving licence
a self-signed medical certificate for the first 7 days (we need certificates signed by your doctor after that)
evidence of your employment and income
Your policy doesn’t specify qualifying illnesses or injuries. You just have to be unable to work and your illness or injury doesn't need to be work-related. When you apply we ask you about your health and any existing medical conditions, but very few of these will stop you from making a claim. In any case, we’ll let you know before you buy if you have any conditions that might prevent one.
Still got questions? Visit our support page where you can find more information about your policy, benefits and other interesting stuff. If you still have doubts, you know you can always get in touch.
